Connect MailChimp
Add every new client and lead to your MailChimp audience automatically, tagged so you can target each group.
Connect MailChimp and your audience stays in step with your workspace. Every new client and lead is added automatically and tagged, so you can send each group its own campaigns without exporting a CSV.
Overview
This guide shows how to connect your MailChimp audience, bring in the contacts you already have, and how the tags work.
Who Can Access
Only people who can manage integrations can connect MailChimp.
Step-by-Step Guide
Find your API key and Audience ID
In MailChimp, go to Account → Extras → API keys and create a key. It ends with something like
-us19. Then go to Audience → Settings → Audience name and defaults and copy the Audience ID.Open the MailChimp settings
Go to Integrations and click Connect on the MailChimp card.

Add the key and audience
Paste the API Key and the Audience ID, then click Save & test. The key and the audience are checked with MailChimp, so you know at once if either is wrong. The card then shows Connected. Keep the API key private.

Bring in the contacts you already have
Open the MailChimp card again and click Sync existing contacts. Your current clients and leads are added to the audience, and you can follow the progress in the dialog. After that, new ones are added on their own.
What Happens After You Connect
- New clients and leads are added automatically to your audience as subscribers.
- Each contact is tagged. Clients get
clientish-clientand leads getclientish-lead, so you can build a segment for each. - Tags follow the contact. When you convert a lead to a client,
clientish-clientis added andclientish-leadis removed, so a “you haven’t bought yet” campaign doesn’t reach a new client. - MailChimp doesn’t send your workspace email. Invoices, order updates and ticket replies still go out through your own mail server. See SMTP & Mail Config.
Tips & Best Practices
Connect MailChimp from day one. New clients and leads join your audience on their own, so you never have to rebuild the list later.
