Clientish Documents
Step-by-step guides for every module, from your first workspace to proposals, billing, support and automation.
Import and Export Clients
Import clients from a spreadsheet with the template, and export your client list.
Bring many clients in at once from a spreadsheet, and download your client list to a spreadsheet.
Overview
This guide covers the template, the import rules and the export.
Who Can Access
Team members need Import Clients to import, and View Clients or Export Clients to export.
Import Clients
Download the template
On the Clients page, click Template. It downloads a CSV file with these headings: First Name, Last Name, Email, Password, Company, Tax ID, Phone, Address, City, State, Zip and Country.
Fill it in
Keep the headings exactly as they are. The First Name, Last Name and Email columns must be there, and every row needs a first name and an email. Save as .csv, .xls or .xlsx, up to 500 KB and 2,000 rows.
Import
Click Import and choose the file. The import starts straight away. A message tells you how many clients were added, and a list under the header shows each skipped row and why.

Let them in
Imported clients can’t sign in yet, and nobody is emailed. When you are ready, switch on Account active on each client’s Edit page, and use Send Welcome Email in the bulk bar to send them their portal address.
Rows That Are Skipped
- The email already has an account.
- The email appears twice in the file.
- The email is invalid or from a throwaway email service.
- Your plan has no room for more clients this month. When it is full, the Import button is turned off.
Export Clients
Click Export to download clients.xlsx with every client in your workspace. Filters and tabs don’t change what is exported. The columns are Name, Email, Company, Phone, Balance, Status and Joined; Status shows whether the client can sign in (Active or Inactive), not their client status.
Moving from ClickUp
From ClickUp opens a step-by-step import that brings your clients, work and team over from ClickUp.
